This collection is challenging my mindset and process as I paint. Being an enneagram 1, I find myself easily slipping back into a perfectionist way of painting, which can not only be draining but can cause a lot of hand cramps πŸ˜‚

I got into a cycle of doing commission after commission (which I’m super thankful for btw 😊) , but it left me feeling drained of my own creative work.

One Over the last week as I’ve muted my own posts/content, I’ve been able to step back and listen to so many beautiful black voices—voices that I don’t know if I would’ve heard before. I hate that it took until now to listen Muted. Listening. Learning.

Here’s a handful from the last round of portraits. This day in Monterey was actually pret This is how I saw the coast that day.

While the weather here at Monterey was pretty cloudy when I captured this picture, I wanted to paint this scene the way I imagined it would be on a sunny day: the sky filled with wispy clouds, the water a turquo I love Mondays.

I used to hate that feeling on late Sunday afternoons where all I could think about was everything I needed to get done the next work day. Now, that day brings a fresh start and a chance to set the tone for week. This has turned Mond The weather was perfect today and our new deck just got finished, which means I will be painting outdoors more β˜€οΈ This little guy started out with a completely different underpainting/sketch, but part way through I just wasn’t feeling it.
